Topic Summary
This committee will be discussing the current situation in Afghanistan in order toĀ adopt a resolution that will benefit the Afghan people by aiding the humanitarian crisis. To do this the committee will observe the aftermath of a 20 year long conflict between Afghanistan, the Taliban, the US, and other nations involved.
Currently, Afghanistan is looking at the consequences of the recent US troop withdrawal in August 2021 as commanded by US President Joe Biden. When the US military left Afghanistan, the Taliban took control over the government and the weapons, leaving them with $85 Billion worth of arms.Ā
To examine this issue the committee will go over important topics like recognition of the Afghan government, funding for humanitarian aid, peacekeeping with the Taliban, international cooperation to provide basic necessities for the Afghan people, and relations between foregin nations and the Taliban.
